Appetizers (or Small Plates as we call them) should be the more playful and experimental part of a menu. At Portico, we offer our guests a unique selection of Small Plates that step outside of the appetizer norm including our best selling “Shrimp Massey”, “Sesame Seared Tuna”, and “Shrimp and Grits”.
Portico owners, Stephen and Kenny, wanted a shrimp and grits appetizer that wasn’t a knock-off of the classic Southern entree. While brainstorming, the Portico owners consulted with Matt Murphy (Asst. Manager at Portico Baton Rouge) who suggested putting the shrimp inside the grits and frying the grits. The end result? A best selling appetizer!
So without further adieu, we’d like to introduce you to one of our best selling menu items and OUR twist on traditional shrimp & grits…creamy asiago cheese grits, stuffed with sautéed shrimp, hand battered, deep fried and topped with a mushroom & roasted red pepper cream sauce! MMM-mmm slap-yo-momma-good and for only $6.99!
But if you’re searching for your traditional Shrimp and Grits, don’t fret! You can find “Low Country Shrimp” under Big Plates. So, whether you’re looking for a tasty appetizer or a belly-full…we’ve got you covered!
Here is what a few of our guests have to say about the Shrimp & Grits Small Plate:
“I tried the Portico’s Shrimp and Grits appetizer Sunday night at the Ruston LA restaurant. I have lived in Louisiana all my life and this was the first time I have ever eaten a shrimp and grits dish. Delicious! I hope that this dish remains on the menu.” – Toby G., Portico Website
“My favorite dish!!!” -Jill W., Portico Ruston Facebook
“The textures and tastes were perfect. The shrimp were well cooked, not over-cooked and chewy. The seasoning of the grits and the mushroom and red pepper sauce it came with mixed quite well.” – Food Blogger, Gourmet Pig Aficionado
“I’m addicted!” – Sheila B., Portico Baton Rouge Facebook
